
FDI inflow up 18.6 per cent
The flow of foreign direct investment (FDI) has increased 18.6 per cent from $2696 million
in 1996-97 to $3197 million in 1997-98. Portfolio investment has fallen by over half, from
$3312 million to $1601 million in the same period. NRI deposits have shown a marginal
increase from $20389 million to $20391 million in 1997-98. RBI figures show FDIs for June
1998 have increased from $1922 million in 1996-97 to $2754 million. However, NRI fund
inflows have slowed down from $639 million to $241 million. |
