
Inflation rises to 6.14 per cent
Reflecting the upsurge in prices of food articles and food products, inflation rate
rose for the fourth successive week to touch its highest in 54 weeks at 6.14 per cent on
May 9. It was 6.05 per cent the previous week. However, it was below the 6 per cent mark
at 5.91 per cent during the corresponding week last year (May 10). In the previous week,
inflation rate crossed the 6 per cent barrier for the first time in 50 weeks when it
touched 6.05 per cent. Since then, it has been orbiting above the 6 per cent mark. The
inflation rate has been in the single digit for the 163rd week in succession, pushing the
old record of 1993 into oblivion, when it stood at in the single digit for 52 weeks. |
