Normal monsoon predicted
The Meteorological Department has predicted a normal monsoon which is expected to arrive on schedule. If the prediction comes true, this would be the 11th consecutive year with a normal monsoon. The Met-0ffice’s announcement came as a relief to the economy, bolstering the agricultural production prospect. The South-West monsoon set in over South Andaman Sea on May 15 and is advancing towards Kerala. The quantum of rainfall in the country in the four-month (June-September) monsoon season is likely to be 99 per cent of the long-term average of 88 cm, though rainfall may bunch up in the latter months.
