Healthcare sector requires $7 billion FDI inflow
The Indian Medical Association has asked for an increase in the healthcare
expenditure from 3 per cent to 6 percent of GDP and to open up the health insurance
sector. The country at present has no healthcare policy. A survey revealed for every 10
million people India has 407 doctors, 214 nurses and 1600 beds. The association said the
sector requires an FDI inflow of $7 billion to meet increasing demands. The health sector
is an attractive sector for investment as hospitals are running at 80-90 per cent
occupancy. |
